Salem Lutheran Preschool opened in 1978. It is a Christian-based preschool that welcomes children of all faiths. The aim is healthy emotional and social growth, mostly through cooperative play. That happens in an atmosphere of love, caring and understanding.
In a room like this, the shelves sit low so children can reach the blocks and puzzles themselves. There is a table for small-group work and a rug for stories. The day moves between active play and quieter stretches. Children wash hands before snack, then sit together to eat.
A visit shows you the room your child would join, with work on the walls at their height. You will see children lining up, helping put things away, and talking to a teacher. Teachers meet children where they are. You can ask how the day is paced and where your child would fit.
What a day looks like
Mornings start at 9:00. Children hang up their bags, find their cubby, and say goodbye at the door. A teacher greets each child by name. The first minutes are for settling in, with something familiar to do while the room fills up. Tuesday and Thursday run until 11:30, while Monday, Wednesday and Friday Lunch Days go to 1:00.
The middle of the day is for cooperative play, with blocks, art, books, and puzzles. Children move between free play and small-group learning, then gather for snack. On Lunch Days, they bring a packed lunch and eat together. Lunch days also include learning games, science experiments, cooking activities and crafts.
The day winds down with cleanup, a story, and getting bags and coats. Teachers help children find their things and say goodbye. At pickup, you might hear what your child built, who they played with, or something new they tried. Teachers share these small moments with families at the door.

What should my child bring on the first day?
Most families pack a spare set of clothes in case of spills or a wet walk, and a small comfort item that helps at rest time. Label everything with your child's name so it finds its way home. A water bottle and weather-ready shoes are handy too, and we can tell you what else your child's class keeps on hand.
Do you offer part-time or flexible schedules?
